Dr. Anz gives talk at 32nd Annual Injuries in Baseball Course

Dr. Anz lectured to a group of physicians, therapists, and athletic trainers from across the United States at the 32nd Annual Injuries in Baseball Course.  The course is annually hosted by the American Sports Medicine Institute, chaired by Dr. James Andrews, and was held this year in Atlanta Georgia.  The goal of the course is to educate physicians, therapists, and athletic trainers on injuries which are common within baseball as well as preventative, non-operative, and  operative treatments.

Dr. Anz’s talk focused on the patellofemoral joint and included discussions on patellofemoral pain syndrome, patella instability, patellofemoral chondromalacia, and traumatic injuries of the patellofemoral joint.  After a discussion on the standard of care for these injuries, Dr. Anz ended with a look of what is on the horizon for patellofemoral cartilage injuries.

Malalignment of the Lower Extremity

The knee joint is a crucial component of the lower extremity mechanical axis in the human body. In orthopedics, proper alignment of the lower extremity is essential for normal joint function, muscle development, biomechanics, and dynamic balance.

MCL Knee Injuries

The MCL is a ligament that links the shinbone (tibia) and thighbone (femur), and is located on the inner aspect of the knee. It is an extra-articular ligament (not located inside the knee joint), and as a result has a good blood supply.
